Frozen Charlotte Dolls

An antique Frozen Charlotte hangs from a curtain tassel in my front window, bringing a touch of New Orleans to the room. Also known as Baby Charlottes, they  are little dolls, usually porcelain that became popular in the 1850's. They are traditionally found in New Orleans King Cakes and  if the Charlotte is found in your piece of cake you get to be King or Queen for a week. I must admit that in Nashville, where a King Cake is actually a coffee cake adorned in white icing and yellow, purple and green sugar, you don't become King, you become the person who buys the next one!
